Valid driving licence and appropriate driving class
To drive a 2 axle truck with a net weight of 4 500 kg or more, you must hold a Class 3 driving licence.
A Class 3 licence is also required for trucks with 3 axles or more, no matter the weight. As per section 209.1 of the Quebec Highway Safety Code, any person driving a road vehicle without being the holder of a valid licence may have his vehicle seized and be fined a minimum of 300$. Mandatory stop at SAAQ weigh stations
When you are driving a vehicle of 3000kg or more net weight, you are required to stop at all SAAQ weigh stations (when in service). You may be fined a minimum of 300$ if you fail to do so.
Loading in a secure and safe manner
The load must be well secured or properly covered in order to avoid any parts from moving or flying from the vehicle.
No load can be placed or covered in such a way to reduce the driver's field of view, destabilize the vehicle or its driving. At all times lights and flashers must be visible. Fines may vary between 90$ and 350$.
Buckle up!
Any person over 5 years old must wear a seatbelt when in a moving road vehicle. Children under 5 years old must be placed in an appropriate children's seat. It is to be noted that the maximum number of passengers allowed in a vehicle must correspond to the maximum seating places available in the vehicle. It is forbidden to transport someone in a moving trailer.
