Get coverage for your move
Moving companies offer insurance for loss or damages. Reimbursement is based on weight and is set at 4.41$/kg, as per the agreement of the Association du camionnage du Québec. You can always give the exact value of your property and negociate with your moving company OR get an estimate from your home insurer.
It is to be noted that when property is located outside the insured location, a maximum of 10% of the covered value is insured. Most rental companies offer car insurance when renting a truck or trailer. Be careful, this coverage does not include your furniture and other property. It is recommended to purchase supplementary insurance to cover the entire value of your property. This insurance can be purchased from moving companies, home insurers or insurance brokers.

Get coverage for your partner when moving together
If your partner is not considered a de facto spouse, you must have both your names appear on the insurance contract, otherwise only the subscriber will be covered (property and civil liability).
To be considered as de facto spouses, your must have lived in a conjugal relationship (provided you are not married) for a period of not less than 3 years, or for a period of not less than 1 year if at least 1 child is born, or to be born, of your union. |
